The US military has just announced it has launched an attack against Iran. US Central Command announced that it launched an attack targeting Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps at 12:00 PM Eastern Time on the 1st (1:00 AM Japan Time on the 2nd). The attack is said to be a response to Iran's attacks on US soldiers in the Middle East and its plans to attack merchant ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump also posted on social media that "if Iran retaliates against this attack, they will face an even more intense and larger attack." Prior to this attack, the news site Axios reported, citing multiple US officials, that the US military was considering a limited attack to prevent Iran from rebuilding its radar equipment and missile capabilities to attack merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported on the 1st that a US missile attack damaged a building where a wedding was taking place in Hormuzgan province, killing four people, including a four-year-old child, and injuring 50 others. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it had retaliated by attacking U.S. military bases in Jordan with ballistic missiles. They claim the attack killed numerous U.S. military personnel and destroyed several key facilities and attack helicopters. According to Reuters, Jordanian forces intercepted 10 of the 13 ballistic missiles that entered their airspace.
