Then Dad took the wheel. 😂 These YouTube streams are never as simple as they look. After months of planning, permits and logistics, you're still completely at the mercy of the weather... and, in this case, whether your dad can drive a canal boat. This was another one of my slightly ridiculous ideas (probably conceived in the shower) that my team somehow agreed to make happen. The goal was to film a DJ set while crossing the iconic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Wales. The plan was simple: cruise up the canal, turn around, then film on the way back. Dad was at the helm. Within about 30 seconds we'd crashed into the side. Then... we did it again. Nobody told us the hardest part would be driving in a straight line. Ten minutes in, we'd crossed the aqueduct, avoided the kayakers, slalomed past moored canal boats but our stress levels were through the roof. There was a genuine moment where I thought the whole project might be over before we'd even started filming. During the set we hit a bush that nearly knocked Dad off the boat, bumped another boat hard enough for its owner to come storming out, and somehow managed to scrape the side of ours through a tunnel. (That chalkboard sound is still ingrained in my head.) We'd set out with a freshly painted canal boat... and returned it with a little more character than we found it. The canal boat survived... just about. Against all odds, so did the stream. Musically, this is one of my favourite streams we've done, two hours of music I've been loving over the last few months, including plenty of unreleased tracks of my own.
