This week we're on Lesbos Island, the pearl of the Northern Aegean. Our journey from Petra to Mytilene, Molivos to Plomari, takes us on a journey exploring the island's history, culture, and delicious local cuisine. We sample papalina fish, saganaki, Mytilene-style kokoreç (lamb intestines), moussaka, zucchini pie, beans, stuffed vegetables, honey yogurt, and lokma (Turkish doughnuts), as well as kadayıf, baklava, revani (Turkish semolina cake), and galaktoboureko, a dessert very similar to our Laz böreği (a type of pastry). In Mytilene, we visit the old Turkish quarter, the New Mosque, and the Ottoman traces in Lesbos Castle; in Petra, we hear the story of one of Greece's first women's cooperatives. At every table we encounter on Lesbos, we see traces of the shared history, cuisine, and culture of Turkish and Greek peoples.
