Stats SA Study | Safety & Justice Survey shows murder on increase, housebreaking is common across SA

Despite many households increasing security, housebreakings remain a common crime across the country. That's according to Stats SA's latest Governance, Public Safety and Justice Survey for 2025/26. It shows that housebreakings declined slightly, compared to the previous year. The report estimates that more than 1-point-5 million housebreaking incidents occurred between 2025 and 2026, affecting just over one million households.
