Medical Examiner Details Baby Callan's Autopsy In Lindsay Clancy's Murder Trial

Warning: This video contains graphic testimony. Kimberly Springer, a medical examiner in Boston, testified this morning about 8-month old Callan Patrick Clancy's autopsy. Springer is a witness in Callan's mother's murder trial. Lindsay Clancy acknowledges killing Callan and his sister, 5-year-old Cora, and brother, 3-year-old Dawson. Her defense is she's not guilty by reason of insanity because she was psychotic due to postpartum mental health problems. 01:06 "An autopsy is a tool by which we examine the whole body in an effort to determine cause of death, and it's comprised of two parts: an external examination where we look for identifying characteristics such as height and weight, evidence of medical therapy, and evidence of trauma and disease." "We may take evidence as appropriate, and then we turn to the internal examination, making surgical-like incisions, and examining each of the internal organs again, looking for evidence of trauma and disease, and taking additional samples for other tests such as toxicology." 03:19 "In general, he was we measured him at 26 inches long and 24 pounds. There's one on the front of the neck, the one, the shorter one that's about half an inch long by 1/16 inch." 08:26 "So these again are the abrasions on the left side of his neck, and there's the one on the front of his neck. In addition, on the left side of his forehead is a 3/16 inch by 1/16 inch abrasion, and I think you can also begin to see petechial hemorrhages, which are dot-like hemorrhages underneath the skin on the face." 14:01 "It is consistent with a ligature strangulation, given that the abrasions are linear around his neck, and there are particular hemorrhages above the those lines of abrasion." 16:22 "And based on your examination of Callan, did you come to a determination based on your training and experience to a reasonable degree of medical certainty as to the cause of his death?"
