How a Copper Smelter Town Became B.C.'s Largest Ghost Town: Anyox, British Columbia
On a remote inlet north of Prince Rupert, reachable only by sea, the Granby company built Anyox - a self-contained copper-smelting town of some 3,000 people, with its own dam, smelter and rows of company houses. When copper prices collapsed in the 1930s the smelter shut down, the company refused to rebuild, and the whole town was abandoned in 1935. Fire and salvage did the rest.
