Video Center / Hsu Chiao-ling Report Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai delivered his final policy address at the Kaohsiung City Council yesterday (31st), detailing the major construction projects and urban transformations he has promoted over the years, and discussing the changes Kaohsiung has undergone. Chen Chi-mai stated that when he ran for mayor, his platform didn't even include TSMC, because he knew it would be very difficult to get TSMC to establish a presence in Kaohsiung. However, TSMC has now planned to build six wafer fabs in the Nanzih Industrial Park. In addition, during his term, he also attracted international superstars to perform in Kaohsiung through policies such as waiving venue rental fees, boosting the concert economy; the light rail overcame the controversy and construction stoppage crisis on the Art Museum section, and was finally completed and opened to traffic. Speaking of the completion of the light rail, Chen Chi-mai emotionally stated that his most important feeling was that the elderly no longer had to rely on motorcycles to see a doctor or for children to go to school. He also hopes that Kaohsiung can continue to improve its municipal administration, firmly declaring: "Don't be afraid, we will fight! Effort is the right thing to do."
