Evening News - The Cabinet meeting held in Songkhla Province approved a National Disaster Insurance Plan, covering 30 million households nationwide. Damaged homes will receive up to 100,000 baht, and fatalities will receive 2 million baht. The Prime Minister chaired the Cabinet meeting in Songkhla. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and the Cabinet, dressed in traditional Thai woven fabrics, traveled by electric bus to the first official Cabinet meeting held outside of Bangkok (Cabinet on Tour) in Songkhla Province. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister announced that the Cabinet had established Quick Win measures for relevant agencies to implement immediately, covering four key areas: economy, society, security, and disaster management. Regarding disaster prevention and management: The Cabinet approved in principle the establishment of a "National Disaster Insurance System" to provide faster and greater compensation to disaster victims. The insurance covers approximately 30 million households nationwide, protecting against three natural disasters: floods, storms, and earthquakes. Compensation is based on actual damages, up to a maximum of 100,000 baht per incident per household, with no limit on the number of incidents per year. In case of death, 2 million baht is paid per person. The government will pay the insurance premiums, with an estimated coverage amount of 75 billion baht per year. The government is also accelerating the removal of business restrictions in the South. Regarding the economy, the government aims to boost the growth of the five southern border provinces by removing obstacles hindering business. Relevant agencies have been tasked with expediting this process, including the Ministry of Finance considering tax measures, particularly those related to loans. Concerning security, the Prime Minister stated that the government will prioritize security alongside development. The key is for the government to work collaboratively with the people and to utilize modern technology, including AI, to enhance security and border management, thereby ensuring public safety. The Cabinet approved three double-track railway projects in the southern region. The Cabinet meeting also approved the second phase of the double-track railway project, totaling 106,798 million baht, comprising three routes: Chumphon-Surat Thani, Surat Thani-Hat Yai Junction, and Hat Yai Junction-Padang Besar. In addition, the Cabinet instructed the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) to expedite a study on connecting Hat Yai Junction in Songkhla province to Suai Ngai Kolok district in Narathiwat province to complete the rail transportation system. The Prime Minister stated that this off-site Cabinet meeting was a great success, leading to the consideration of holding Cabinet meetings in various locations throughout the country.
