Four players sued Sony Interactive Entertainment in June for allegedly breaching California's Digital Goods Law by using terms like "Buy Now" and "Confirm Purchase" while actually selling revocable licences. Sony's response? Reasonable consumers already knew that. There's no rent button. There's no licence button. There's an add to cart button and an $80 price tag. 🎮 The blackout was supposed to end August 30th - you voted overwhelmingly to keep it going, many of you for a month or indefinitely. The organisers have declared "#PSBlackout Stage One completed" and called for the fight to continue, warning that if PlayStation goes all digital, others will follow, physical trade will die, retailers will close, and second-hand price competition will vanish. 🔥 Also in this video: the rumour that Sony is considering delaying the digital-only shift because Microsoft is telling publishers Project Helix will be fully physical - and industry veteran Richard Brown flatly rubbishing it, saying there was no talk of Sony changing strategy at Gamescom and all publishers are still following disc-less 2028 guidance. Sony agreeing to a $7.85 million settlement over digital game code monopoly claims, with a final hearing October 15th. 500 StudioCanal films vanishing from PS libraries the same day Live TV launched. Digital Foundry's John Linneman reporting that publishers at Gamescom were "largely very upset" with Sony. PS5 Pro sold out on PlayStation Direct with scalpers asking $1,800 ahead of GTA 6. And Hiroki Totoki saying Sony no longer needs to aggressively sell consoles, focusing instead on recurring revenue from its existing 125 million users. 💪 No disc, no buy.
