130MPH MOTORBIKE CHASE, all caught on the SUSPECT'S GoPro camera | 33-Mile Durham Police Pursuit

A motorcyclist who led police on a 130mph chase made the unusual (but helpful) decision to record all his wrongdoing on a helmet camera. Dean Bruce, of no fixed abode, caught the attention of motorbike officer PC Simpson in February, when he was spotted riding at high speeds in wet conditions. Bruce failed to stop, embarking on a 33-mile pursuit stretching from Bishop Auckland to Wallsend, miles outside of Durham Constabulary’s force area. During the pursuit, Bruce was observed weaving in and out of traffic, driving through red traffic lights, crossing onto the wrong side of the road, and reaching almost twice the national speed limit on the A1(M). All of this was captured on his own helmet-mounted camera, which he attempted to conceal at an address in Wallsend after the pursuit was aborted by Northumbria Police for safety reasons. Bruce continued to be tracked by the NPAS police helicopter, and on arrest was found to be driving without a licence, without insurance, with false number plates, and in possession of cannabis. Appearing at Durham Crown Court earlier this month, Bruce pleaded guilty to the offences and was handed a 15-month jail sentence and a 31-month driving ban. PC Simpson said: “Dean Bruce selfishly decided to gamble with the safety of everybody else on the road that day. “Even when the pursuit was halted, his helmet cam shows that he continued to drive dangerously and without any regard for other motorists and pedestrians, which highlights the reason that we go to such lengths to get dangerous drivers stopped as quickly as possible. “We’re committed to getting these people off the road, and we’ll use all the tactics at our disposal – including stingers, contact and helicopters – to do so. “Don’t take your chances. Pull over and accept the consequences of your actions.”
