Nepal buries its dead as more than 3,000 remain missing

Nepal is burying hundreds of victims after a deadly, tsunami‑like flood tore through the Himalayas, sweeping away villages and leaving thousands missing. Distraught families crowd rescue stations and morgues, searching for loved ones among the 797 confirmed dead across Nepal and Tibet. At least 3,048 remain missing, including pilgrims to Mount Kailash and nearly a thousand hydropower workers. Nepali troops and engineers are drilling through debris at the Trishuli 3A hydroelectric site, where workers were trapped in a tunnel. Survivors described raging waters swamping turbine floors and sweeping colleagues away. The disaster, triggered by a glacial collapse, created massive lakes now threatening rescue operations. China has reported 16 deaths and 546 missing in Tibet, while Nepal’s disaster agency raised its toll to 781 dead and 2,502 missing. Overwhelmed authorities have begun burials before identification, taking DNA samples so families can later claim bodies and perform rites. Grieving relatives watch LED screens of retrieved victims, a grim reminder of the flood’s devastating toll. https://www.nst.com.my/world/world/20... ---------------------------------- #NST #NSTTV #Nepal #China #Funeral #Burial #Tibet #Landslide #Mudslide #MountKailash #DNA #NST #News #WorldNews visit us at http://www.nst.com.my our Facebook   / nstonline   more news at   / nst_online   Instagram   / nstonline   and also Tiktok   / nstonline
