Pilot's Reckless Mistakes Caught on Camera!

Free → https://pilotdebrief.com/pattern On an August afternoon in 2020, a Cessna T210M Centurion climbed out of a Utah mountain airport with six souls on board — and twenty minutes later, the engine quietly began to give up over a high-elevation lake. The pilot departed Roosevelt Municipal Airport with five passengers and pushed northwest over rising mountainous terrain, eventually reaching nearly 12,900 feet mean sea level. About twenty minutes into the flight, over a high-altitude lake at roughly 8,100 feet, the engine RPM fluctuated and began a slow decay. The airplane could no longer produce enough power to sustain level flight. With options narrowing fast, the pilot turned down a canyon and committed to a forced landing along the lake shoreline. The propeller was windmilling, the throttle, prop, and mixture were all firewalled, and the airplane was being asked to stretch a glide it didn't have. An onboard video shot by the front-seat passenger captured the final seconds — the stall warning horn sounded as the airplane crossed the beach, and it banked left into the terrain. The NTSB determined the probable cause was the pilot's failure to maintain sufficient airspeed after the partial power loss, which led to an exceedance of the critical angle of attack and an unrecoverable aerodynamic stall. Postaccident examination found no preimpact malfunctions, and the reason for the power loss itself could not be determined. All six occupants survived; two were seriously injured.
