Why Can't GenX Relax: Our Best and Worst Quality
Visit www.thedadbodveteran.com for Unc Brand and DBV merch, socials, and upcoming Events Why is it so hard for Gen X to relax without feeling guilty? Because somewhere along the way, rest became something we thought we had to earn. You couldn’t just sit down. There were chores. There was yard work. There was something in the garage that apparently needed to be reorganized for reasons nobody fully understood. And if your parents caught you doing absolutely nothing, there was always a strong possibility they were about to invent a job. So now we’re adults... And even when we finally have time to relax, there’s still a little voice in the back of our heads saying: “Shouldn’t you be doing something?” In this episode of All Things Gen X, we’re talking about why our generation has such a complicated relationship with downtime, why productivity became part of our identity, and why sitting still can somehow feel more stressful than staying busy. We’ll get into: Why Gen X was raised to associate work with worth How boredom and chores shaped our idea of “earning” rest Why adulthood turned relaxing into something we schedule Why we feel guilty when we’re not being productive And why learning to actually enjoy what we’ve worked for might be one of the hardest things Gen X has ever had to do Because apparently we can survive layoffs, recessions, bad knees, teenagers, and three decades of corporate nonsense... But sitting on the couch at 2:00 in the afternoon? Absolutely unacceptable. So tell me in the comments: What is the one thing you can’t do without immediately feeling guilty about it? Taking a nap? Watching TV during the day? Doing absolutely nothing on a Saturday? Ordering food instead of cooking? Or sitting down while there is still one visible object somewhere in the house that could technically be put away? Drop yours below. If this episode hit a little too close to home, be sure to Like, Subscribe, and Share it with the Gen Xer who needs to hear that sitting down for twenty minutes does not mean society is about to collapse. #GenX #GenerationX #AllThingsGenX #DadbodVeteran #GenXHumor #GenXNostalgia #80sKids #90sKids #LatchkeyKids #MiddleAge #Burnout #Relaxation #WorkLifeBalance #GenXLife
