Under Umberto Bossi, the party pushed for the autonomy and secession of the northern regions, including legendary themes such as Padania and the Po River, with specific social and identity-based thrusts, all with strategic alliances between Berlusconi, Forza Italia, and the National Alliance. But then came the collapse, the chaos of the 49 million euro loan, Bossi's stroke, and the triumph of Salvini, who transformed the party since 2013. Identity politics turning national, anti-European and sovereignist populism, election victories and the Five Star Movement government, only to have it all collapse with the split at Papete.
