Colombia awoke to a new National Electoral Council (CNE). Nine magistrates were elected by the Senate for the next four years, in a session that stretched until midnight and was marked by conflicts of interest, alliances, and last-minute political maneuvers. The election resulted in six magistrates from the majority slate, two from the Historical Pact, and a ninth position that went to Gersel Pérez of Cambio Radical, thanks to an alliance with sectors of the Green Alliance. Among the new magistrates are former members of Congress, former officials, and figures with ties to various political sectors. The result also produced a noteworthy development: members of Congress close to Governor Carlos Amaya ended up supporting the Cambio Radical candidate. Now, the new CNE will face challenges such as monitoring campaign finances, overseeing the electoral activities of parties and candidates, and preparing for the upcoming regional elections.
