Not because it exploded or collapsed, but because when astronomers calculated its age, the answer came back older than the universe itself. HD 140283, nicknamed Methuselah, returned an age estimate of roughly 14.5 billion years. But the universe is only 13.8 billion years old. Nothing can predate everything. Nothing can be older than time itself. So either our understanding of the cosmos was wrong, or something was hiding inside the measurements.
